A Perfect Pair: Choosing the Best Sunglasses for Your Face Shape

They say perfection can’t be found. But at Sun Optics, we believe otherwise. We believe that there is a perfect pair of luxurious sunglasses for every unique individual out there. A pair of sunglasses that just screams “You!”

At Sun Optics, it is our desire to provide the ideal pair of optics that perfectly balance your features. They should fit exquisitely on your face, adding character to your look and cool to your style. And while we’d love to tell you that any pair would do, you know that isn’t true.

Let our sunglasses aficionados provide you with the top tips for finding the perfect pair to match your face shape. Then come on over to Sun Optics to find exactly what you need.

Flatter Yourself

Finding the right pair of shades is all about flattering yourself. You want a pair that complements your particular facial features. But to do just that, you’ll need to understand your face shape.

To do so, follow these 3 easy steps:

  1. Take a front-facing picture of yourself (with your hair pulled back if necessary).
  2. Print out this image.
  3. Using a marker, pencil, or pen, trace the outline of your face.

Depending on your facial structure, you should be able to have a clearer view of your face shape. The most common face shapes include:

    • Oval - Your face is longer than it is wide, your forehead might be a bit wider than your jaw, and your jaw and cheekbones are slightly rounded.
    • Oblong - A oblong-shaped face is longer than it is wide with a jaw and cheekbones that are rounded.
  • Heart - A heart-shaped face is significantly wider at the forehead than at the jawline.
  • Square - Broad forehead and square jawline.
  • Diamond - Diamond-shaped faces have similar lengths and widths but with defined cheekbones.
  • Round - Round-shaped faces are roughly the same in width and length.
  • Triangle (inverted triangle to be exact) - The forehead is wider than the chin and narrows down like an upside down triangle.
  • It’s important to recognize, however, that no one is going to match the following categories perfectly. In fact, you might find that you are a bit of a hybrid.

    A Pair for Every Face

When it’s time to make that purchase, here are a few ideas to consider (and a couple of don'ts too):

    Oval Face Options

If you have an oval-shaped face, you get to enjoy the best of all worlds. Most styles of sunglasses will match your brilliance, just take your facial features into consideration. If you have petite features, you’ll want to avoid overwhelmingly large frames. Smooth-lined frames can do wonders for your style.

    Oblong Face Options

The world is at your fingertips when you have an oblong-shaped face. An array of sunglass styles are your disposal, just avoid choosing a pair that makes your face even longer. Aviator and rounded-styles are your best bet.

    Heart Face Options

Match your gorgeous heart-shaped face with sunglasses that mirror your face shape. Aviators are ideal as they are generally wider on top and gradually shrink towards the bottom.

    Square Face Options

Don’t exaggerate your features, complement them. If you have a strong square-shaped face, soften it a bit with sunglasses that curve and have rounded corners. Avoid square-shaped sunglasses that will only go to make your face look wider.

    Diamond Face Options

Contrast your sharp cheekbones with some browline frames or subtly contrast your refined look with some sleek oval sunglasses. Balance is the keyword for those with a diamond-shaped face, so avoid frames that are too large while staying free from small and narrow sunglasses.

    Round Face Options

Round-faced individuals should aim for square frames, which help to balance the roundness of your face. On the other hand, round faces should avoid small, round frames. Aviators, wayfarers, butterfly glasses, and cat’s eyes all make wonderful selections for round-shaped faces.

    Triangle Face Options

Accentuate that sharp jawline with some playful, rounded lenses and curvy frames.

Elegant. Extravagant. Sophisticated. Make them remember you with sunglasses from Sun Optics.
